On a sunny Sunday afternoon, we went for a walk in the hills above Porirua with Kate and Andrew.
Andrew brought his beautiful antique large format camera to photograph the landscape.
After setting up the camera, we got the subtle but worrying feeling that we were being watched.
On a ridge, we saw a sheep, quietly and eerily gazing at us from a distance. It suddenly walked off when we looked in its direction.
Slightly worried but curious, we followed the sheep over the ridge and to these abandoned buildings. They were used to store explosives during WWII.
We didn't see the sheep anywhere, so we peeked inside the creepy old buildings. That's when we discovered....
...the bones!
There were bones everywhere!
Most of them looked like sheep bones, but some seemed too large for sheep. What on earth had happened here?!
Suddenly, the sheep appeared, grunting. It turned around and disappeared, but moments later, something larger and scarier appeared in the doorway...
Who or what was this creature?! It looked vaguely human, but not quite. We caught a glimpse of its contorted face and looked into threatening, menacing eyes.
We didn't think twice but ran for our lives. From a distance, we saw the creature roaming the hills. We ran and ran to our car raced back to Wellington. I'm never going to these cursed hills again!
