Graeme and Joan
You don't stop doing things because you get old...
After leaving Wellington, we drive to Wanganui, to say hi to Joan and Graeme, the couple we met on Coromandel peninsula. We receive the warmest welcome possible and have no choice but to stay there for the night. When we arrive they're not at home, but a message written on a whiteboard invites us to eat anything we find in the fridge and pick a room we'd like to sleep in tonight. "I'll be home at 3 - Joan".
Graeme takes us to the beach where the three of us go swimming and bodyboarding and then back home to enjoy his home brew beer. Joan invited her friend Anneke over, who is dutch but has been living in New Zealand for well over fifty years.
We have a fantastic evening with excellent food and wine - and lots of it, too! What a remarkable couple! Typical of their enthousiasm and attitude is a sign on their fridge, saying "You don't stop doing things because you get old, you get old because you stop doing things!".
